What type of sound insulation should you choose?
To soundproof the tiled floor of your home, two solutions are available:
- Laying tiles on an acoustic underlay;
- Creating a mini floating screed after installing acoustic insulation.
The acoustic underlay
The acoustic underlay is placed between the slab and the tiles. With a small thickness , generally between 3 and 7 mm , this solution is particularly suitable for renovations as it does not involve major work.
Installation is relatively simple and quick and provides good attenuation of noise pollution, especially between two floors. To be perfectly effective, the acoustic underlay must be continuously installed over the entire floor surface and without overlapping the insulating panels.
The mini floating screed
Creating a mini floating screed after installing acoustic insulation is the best solution for new constructions and/or large tiled areas. It is also compatible with underfloor heating.
Very effective in reducing noise pollution – footsteps, impacts, or airborne noise on an upper floor – the mini floating screed, however, involves heavy work in case of renovation .
It is important to note that this solution requires a perfectly waterproof acoustic insulation. If not, it will be necessary to cover it with a plastic film. Also, if you wish to soundproof the floor of an upper storey, check that the floor can support the load of this installation.
